  I am the Middle School Dean of Students at Visitation School in Mendota Heights. I am in the Educational Policy, Organization & Leadership, Diversity & Equity in Education MA program. I was born in Texas, raised in Los Angeles, and have been working in schools as a teacher and now dean for 20 years. I currently work in an all-girls environment and have become a proponent of single-gender education for middle school girls. Being part of a predominantly white institution for the last 15 years has also made me keenly aware of the need for continued equity. Minnesota is among the worst states in educating children of color and it is especially obvious in institutions like the one where I am. My calling is to give those students who do not have a voice the support they need to find it.
