I studied Sociology (Panteion University, Athens) and I did my Master's Degree in Sociology and Political Science at the Department of Political Science and Public Administration at the University of Athens. I have also attended a postgraduate course at the University of Essex (Department of Government). I just finished my PhD and I hope to find a teaching position at university soon. My thesis is on representations of sex and gender in popular Greek cinema of the sixties, and it draws mainly on Michel Foucault, as well as on Discourse Theory and psychoanalysis. I am interested in feminist theory, film and popular culture, poststructuralism and postmodernism. My current focus of interest lies in the embodiment of gendered identities as well as how these are represented through visual culture.
