He was involved in higher education for more than 17 years since 1989 when first being appointed as Assistant Lecturer and to the current designation is a Senior Lecturer since 2004 at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Malaysia. Teaching in specialise area that Building Services Engineering and Fire Safety in Buildings, has research interest in Integrating of Human Behaviour and Structural Design particularly regarding the escape route design and specification for high-rise buildings. As an academician, he has an experience not only in teaching and supervising undergraduate and postgraduate projects and dissertations but also administrative works and conducting professional short courses for Mechanical and Electrical contractors too. Graduated in Mechanical Engineering from UTM and obtained M.Sc. in Building Services Engineering and Management from Herriot-Watt University, United Kingdom, currently undertaking Ph.D. in Construction, at Herriot-Watt University. He Ph.D. research project is attempting to model the fire safety for high-rise residential buildings by investigating the relationship between human behaviour and structural designs i.e. escape route and internal circulation in high-rise residential buildings, escape route design and specification, evacuation risk index, and fire risk assessment in building. The aim is to produce some sort of fire safety model(s) for high-rise residential buildings.
