Vic was born in London soon after the end of the war. His family moved to Hertfordshire when he was 12 and after leaving his secondary modern school, aged fifteen, he worked in a number of unskilled and semi-skilled jobs which included a spell in the army. From his mid-twenties he taught sociology and then, twenty years later, he became a psychodynamic counsellor specialising in working with men. He was forced to retire in 1998 for health reasons but in his retirement he keeps up an active interest in research and writing on men and masculinity issues. He has contributed to a number of publications around this area, and is currently working on a book on the subject.
