Valencia Montgomery is a third year clinical psychology doctoral student at Roosevelt University in Chicago, Il. Her undergraduate year she wrote a thesis on research conducted on mice using blueberries to treat Alzheimer's disease. Her work on this was published in the Environmental Nutrition Newsletter. Currently, she is a neuropsychology extern at the University of Chicago, where she has done one rotation at the Memory Clinic, working with older individuals suffering from cognitive impairment. In July, she will start her next externship at the University of Illinois, Chicago in neuropsychology. Her research interests include creating a psychoeducation program for medication adherence in a population with vascular risk factors to prevent cognitive impairment, health disparities among aging minorities and cognition, multicultural issues in neuropsychology, chronic pain and cognitive impairment in older adults, and assessing the clinical utility of graduate level education as it pertains to the psychology of aging. Prior to this she trained as a therapist treating older adults with chronic mental illness at a community mental health center and volunteered to visit older adults in hospice.
