Tracy Mackenna is an artist and holds the Personal Chair of Contemporary Art Practice at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design, University of Dundee. Having lectured widely in Europe and Asia, she is currently Director of the MFA Art, Society & Publics programme, developing an emphasis on art’s place and role in society. Individual practice and research explore ‘live writing’ in visual art, mediation of history and private archives, and migratory aesthetics. Extensive periods living and working in Hungary, Romania, France and the Netherlands were spent making art and establishing international networks.
The collaborative practice she shares with Edwin Janssen is a creative and discursive site central to which are exhibition projects that are contexts for interactions, integrating research, production, presentation and education. Research focuses on issues of life and death, cultural identity, museum culture and visual publishing. Work is shown internationally with organisations and institutions that include: The Highland Hospice, Scotland; Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst, Zürich; Scottish National Portrait Gallery, Edinburgh; Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Contemporary Art; Nederlands Fotomuseum, Rotterdam.
