Dr. Toru Otawa teaches GIS (geospatial information systems) applications, regional land planning and sustainable design studio courses at the University of Idaho, Moscow, Idaho, USA. He has also taught at Ball State University, Muncie, Indiana prior to the current appointment. He received a Bachelor of Science in Landscape Architecture from the Tokyo University of Agriculture (Nodai), a Master of Landscape Architecture from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and a Ph.D. from the University of Queensland, Australia. He carried out numerous research projects and published in the following areas during his 30+ years of academic career:
(a) Geo-spatial modeling for environmental planning and decision-making (e.g., land resources / water / renewable energy), and
(b) Geo-design applied to water-related design and planning.
