With an eye for detail and a love of the unique, Tim brings over fifteen years of design experience to projects, clients and students. NCIDQ certified [National Council for Interior Design Qualification] and a Registered Interior Designer in the State of Tennessee, his background ranges from stage and set design, to textile printing, graphic design, and commercial development. Currently, he serves as an Associate Professor at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina, and maintains a multi-discipline design consultancy. He has had multiple article publications and lectured both domestically and internationally.
Academically, he received a B.S. degree Magna Cum Laude from The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and an M.S. degree from East Tennessee State University, where his research focused primarily on the correlative association of foundational studies among multidisciplinary design education disciplines. For over ten years he has had the opportunity to serve as an instructor in university interior design programs. His teaching has covered senior design studios to architectural study tours including visits to the International Home Furnishings Market in High Point, NC, and NeoCon World’s Trade Fair in Chicago, IL. A student favorite, Tim structures his classes with hands-on learning, industry experience, high expectations, and healthy doses of fun.
Professionally, he most recently has been involved in the new construction, addition and renovation of over forty long-term care, assisted living and retirement facilities, with an average value of two million dollars; functioning primarily as project coordinator for a management and development company. Geographically, his projects have covered the east coast and central states. Prior experience includes hospitality design, educational facilities, corporate offices, churches, as well as corporate identity and branding. He is an active professional member of the International Interior Design Association [IIDA] and the American Society of Interior Designers [ASID]. Additional memberships include the Interior Design Educator’s Council [IDEC] and the International Code Council [ICC].
Personally, Tim enjoys traveling, jazz music and theatre. In his free time, he is in frequent demand as a designer, clinician, and adjudicator for marching band programs. He currently splits his time between homes in Northeast Tennessee and Western North Carolina, with his wife Nikki and yellow Labrador Pearl.
