After earning a Ph.D. in American Studies from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, Dr. Richard Hill moved to Concordia University in Portland, Oregon where he has been teaching Humanities and Literature for the last thirty years, teaching such courses as The Impacts of Colonialism, American Literature and Culture, Film and Literature, and Peace Studies. He is working to complete a book on the 1960s in America, arguing that the period exists within historical, cultural and philosophical contexts and contributes to contemporary cultures, especially concerning meaning and purpose in post-apocalyptic times. Despite all evidence to the contrary, Dr. Hill believes in a future with possibility. He is deeply committed to interdisciplinary studies, the potential for nonviolent methods of social change, and working out the relationship between theoretical ideas and their practical application. He has three grown children and four grandchildren, loves going to the movies, and is perennially trying to get into shape.
