Perri’s research is situated at the crossroads of gender studies, critical social theory, digital media studies and youth studies. Her book, ‘Digital Selves: Iraqi Women’s Warblogs and the Limits of Freedom’ (forthcoming) provides a glimpse into the lives of Iraqi women in post-invasion Iraq. Her recent work explores young people’s modes of participation in a changing social environment, and new forms of networked selfhood emerging through the use of social media, in movements such as the Arab Spring and global Occupy movements.
Perri has been a Visiting Fellow at the Institute for the Study of Societal Issues at the University of California (Berkeley), where she carried out research for the project titled: ‘Social Media and Cultures of Democracy: the Young Men and Women of the Arab Spring and Global Occupy Movements’.
Perri has been invited to speak at research events at the City University of New York (CUNY), and community events, such as the forum: ‘After the Year of the Protester: Young People, Social Media and New Forms of Democracy’. She has also contributed weekly opinion columns to the largest regional newspaper in the Geelong Bellarine Peninsula, The Geelong Advertiser.
