Olivier Bauer was born in 1964 in Neuchâtel (Switzerland). He spent his professional life in Practical Theology on 3 continents, between Protestant Churches and Faculties of Theology. He studied Theology in Neuchâtel, Montpellier and Lausanne where he got his PhD in 2000. He worked for Reformed Churches in France and Switzerland, as a chaplain in a Protestant High school and College in Tahiti (1993-1999) and as pastor of the Frenchspeaking Protestant Church of Washington, DC (2003-2006). He taught theology at the Universities of Lausanne and Neuchâtel and since 2005, he is professor at the Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies of the University of Montreal. His main academic interests include: the transmission of faith to the 5 senses; the cultural dimension of Christianity not only abroad but also in Western countries; food and religion.
Prof Bauer wrote 5 books: Le protestantisme et ses cultes désertés (Labor et Fides, 2008); Les rites protestants en Polynésie française (L’Harmattan, 2003); Le protestantisme à table (Labor et Fides, 2000); Petit lexique du parler local (Aux vents des îles, 1999); Le jeu de Dieu et de Jonas (Éditions du Moulin, 1996). He co-edited 3 books: with Jean-Marc Barreau, La religion du Canadien de Montréal (Fides, 2009); with Prof Félix Moser, Les Églises au risque de la visibilité (IRP, 2002); with Prof Henry Mottu, Le culte protestant (IRP, 2001).
