Dr Nandish V Patel is a lecturer in Executive Perspective on IS (MBA), Organisation and Systems Design, Systems Development Project and Research Methods at Brunel Business School, Brunel University. Dr Patel has constructed the Theory of Deferred Action as an ‘action and design theory’ to inform the design and development of organisations and IT systems. The theory informs the practice of integrated organisation and IT systems design in emergent environments. The theory draws on complexity theory to explain emergence and self-organisation. The theory is used by other researchers, recognized by the US-based Association of Information Systems as a theory used in information systems research, applied by information management practitioners, and cited in UK government internal report. Dr Patel is a member of the Brunel University Complexity Collaborative Research Network. Dr Patel’s research interests include: Process-oriented IT systems and IS in emergent organizations and eGovernment; Construct development for systems evolution and situationally relevant IT architecture and IS; and Theory of Deferred Action and Deferred Systems Design. His present research is focused on developing informational models of reality based on the theory. He has authored many IS and organisational systems publications and published several papers in reputable refereed journals.
