Nancy Pawlyshyn, PhD, is a faculty member in the Graduate School of Education at Northeastern University, Boston, MA, USA, and also serves as special academic officer to the dean working to advance initiatives with a focus on faculty affairs. Her scholarship focuses on the areas of learning outcomes assessment, adult learning, and faculty development and leadership. She has presented and published case studies and articles on fostering innovation in academic culture. Dr. Pawlyshyn is passionate about innovations in curriculum and assessment that advance student success, and develops and teaches both blended and online graduate courses to those who aspire to administration and leadership in higher education. As an education management consultant, writer, researcher, and lecturer, her expertise lies in mobilizing the best efforts of institutional and community stakeholders toward common purposes and extraordinary work. Dr. Pawlyshyn is the coauthor of a recently published case study, “Adopting Open Education Resources: A Case Study of Cross-Institutional Collaboration and Innovation,” in EDUCAUSE Quarterly Review (November 2013). She is a member of the American Association of Colleges and Universities and of the Association for Authentic, Experiential, and Evidence-Based Learning (AAEEBL), where she works with the AAEEBL research team on building a body of evidence on the integration of electronic portfolios in teaching, learning, and assessment. Previously, Dr. Pawlyshyn served as an assessment consultant and project adviser for the Kaleidoscope Project, a Gates Foundation-funded project under the EDUCAUSE Next Generation Learning Challenges program. Prior to that, she was the chief assessment officer in academic affairs and associate provost at Mercy College, NY; the dean of Social Sciences, Humanities, Arts, and Physical Education at San Jose Evergreen Community College District, CA; and the chair of the Department of Communications at Simmons College, Boston.
