Dr. Simsik is a natural resource management and development specialist with 20 years of experience. Dr. Simsik currently serves as the Country Director of the U.S. Peace Corps in Mali. Prior to becoming director, Dr. Simsik served for two years as the Deputy Director for Peace Corps-Mali. Prior to his arrival in Mali, Dr. Simsik worked for a number of years in Madagascar, as the Associate Country Director for Peace Corps where he managed the Environmental Program, and before that, as a Technical Advisor to the Rural Development Department of an integrated conservation and development project managed by the World Wildlife Fund in Southeastern Madagascar. Dr. Simsik also conducted field research for his doctoral degree in the Ankazobe Region of Madagascar where he studied the relationship between biodiversity conservation and livelihood issues. In addition to working in Madagascar, Dr. Simsik has worked in a numerous locations throughout West and Southern Africa, including three years as a forester in Benin, West Africa. Other professional experiences include working as the Urban Agriculture Program Leader for Cornell University Cooperative Extension in New York City as well as previous experience working as a technical advisor and trainer to international development and conservation organizations overseas.
