  Mercedes is a Mexican Industrial Designer with a Master Degree in Computer Arts at Thames Valley University, in London (UK) and a Master Degree in Industrial Design at Scuola Politecnica di Design, Milan (Italy). She lived and worked in Huajuapan de León, at Oaxaca, Mexico for eight years, where she met local indigenous communities, their culture and their problems, and this is the reason she got interested in Anthropology. This paper is part of her PHD thesis, which Mercedes made with support of Dr. Luis Alberto Vargas Guadarrama (her tutor), Universidad Tecnológica de la Mixteca (UTM) and Programa para el Mejoramiento del Profesorado (Promep), institutions that made possible this research.
