Professor Dr Mashkuri Yaacob was installed as the third Vice Chancellor of Universiti Tenaga Nasional, a private University wholly owned by Malaysia's largest Power Utility Company, Tenaga Nasional Berhad on Jan 2, 2007. Born on April 5, 1953 in the State of Kelantan in Malaysia, Mashkuri obtained his Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of New South Wales, Sydney in 1976. He also holds an MSc and PhD degrees in electronics and computer engineering from the University of Manchester in the United Kingdom. He began his career in academia as a tutor at the Electrical and Engineering Department in the University of Malaya (UM) in 1980. He was named Deputy Dean of the Engineering Faculty in 1983, Director of the Computer Centre in June 1983 and later as the Founding Dean of the Computer Science and Information Technology Faculty in 1992. He was promoted as a Professor of Computer Science in 1991. Mashkuri’s career at UM culminated with his appointment as Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) from June 2000 to May 2003. Mashkuri has published over 200 research papers extensively in local and international journals as well as international conferences in the fields of computer engineering and information technology.
