Through her practice Mary Wenholz explores issues related to the contemporary placement of painting and the relevance of its modernist history. Her large format paintings, which are painted on a transparent vinyl ground, incorporate the wall itself into the painting’s composition. In this manner Wenholz explores the materiality of painting and its ability to engage with its architectural context.
Mary Wenholz is a Sydney based artist who has been exhibiting since 2003. In 2005 she received her Bachelor of Visual Arts (Honours) and is currently a candidate for Master of Visual Arts, both of which were undertaken at Sydney College of the Arts, University of Sydney.
