Full Professor of Sociology at Farmingdale State College, SUNY. Kirby-Diaz is the author of three books, including: Buffy and Angel Conquer the Internet: Essays on Online Fandom (2009), Case Studies in Contemporary Marriage (1998, 2000, 2006), and Student Research in Social Problems (1979). Her professional endeavors include having written chapters for books, articles for scholarly journals, and delivering more than two dozen scholarly presentations at national and international scholarly conferences. Her research interests include fan studies, communities (online/real), mass media, popular culture, marriage and family. Currently she is completing You’ve Got a Friend: The Fandom Project: A Long-Term Study of Internet Fans of Buffy and Angel (working title) will be published in the late Fall/early Winter 2014, and a study of locavores as a manifestation of fandom.
