I received a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology from Southern University of Chile in 2006 in my home city of Valdivia. From 2008 to 2012 I was a Fulbright scholar in the Ph.D. program in Cultural Perspectives and Comparative Education with emphasis in teaching learning science at University of California Santa Barbara. In 2008 my first book was published, The Science of Wondering (La Ciencia de Maravillarse), where - based on a qualitative study I conducted - I tell the story of how a group of 20 scientists use intuition, imagination, and the aesthetic sense when doing research. For my doctoral dissertation, I studied the educational factors that contribute to becoming a scientist, working with groups of graduate students in Chile and the US in the field of life sciences. Currently I am an assistant professor at Southern University of Chile, where I teach several classes on pedagogy and didactics. My research interests focus on the life histories of people from different cultures when making educational choices and how formal and informal schooling experiences influence people’s decisions when choosing to pursue a profession in the field of STEM education.
