Dr Mark Gaved gained his PhD at the Knowledge Media Institute, The Open University (2011), having conducted an investigation into grassroots initiated networked communities as a means of addressing the digital divide. He also holds a Masters degree in Interactive Multimedia from The Royal College of Art / London College of Printing. Dr Gaved is currently working as a Lecturer in the Institute of Educational Technology, Open University, and has worked on a range of informal and mobile learning projects including MASELTOV (exploring the use of smartphones to enable the social inclusion of immigrants), SALSA (location-based language learning), xDelia (serious games for training emotion regulation and mindfulness), Personal Inquiry (mobile science investigations for school children) and ERA (wireless networks to support mobility impaired students' participation in university fieldwork).
