The core focus of the current research is in the preliminary design phases of Product/Service Systems, where Knowledge Enabled Engineering technologies are crucial in order to raise the knowledge baseline for new product development projects. The main purpose is to understand how “lightweight” knowledge engineering methods and tools may support heterogeneous design teams in eliciting, storing and communicating knowledge elements in a cohesive way across functions and across companies, to support decision making activities in PSS early design stages. The research aims also to understand how the lifecycle value of PSS design alternatives can be visualized and communicated to the cross-functional teams’ member during conceptual design. Marco Bertoni is WP leader of the “BDA Enterprise Collaboration Capabilities” WP in the EU FP7 CRESCENDO project, and leads the “Cross-functional knowledge sharing” research project within the Faste laboratory, a VINN Excellence Center for Functional Product Innovation.
