Lucy Brisley is currently a Visiting Scholar at Columbia University and a third-year D.Phil. candidate at The Queen’s College, University of Oxford. Her thesis, ‘Beyond Melancholia: Algeria and its Spectres,’ problematizes the recent turn to melancholia and haunting through the novels of Algerian authors Assia Djebar, Yasmina Khadra, and Boualem Sansal. She has articles forthcoming on the novels of Khadra, Sansal, and Dany Laferrière. Her research interests include Francophone literature, psychoanalysis, and postcolonial literature and theory.
