Leo received his doctorate in Human Development and Education at Boston University where he previously got his masters in Counselor Education and School Psychology. Before that he attended the University of Massachusetts at Boston where he took a course on Resistance, Rebellion and Revolution from Gene Sharp, the world’s leading expert on nonviolent action. Leo has worked as a school psychologist for over three decades in urban, suburban and rural school districts in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. He also has been in higher education since 1971 beginning as an adjunct faculty member at Rivier College, a Catholic College in Nashua, New Hampshire. Prior to attending college, Leo served for four years in the U.S. Navy during which time he participated in the Cuban missile blockade. Leo is currently a professor of Counselor Education and School Psychology and coordinator of the School Psychology Program and Parenting Education Certificate Program at Plymouth State University. He also co-teaches two undergraduate general education courses that are housed in the Philosophy Department – Building a Civil Society and Philosophical Aspects of War and Peace. In addition to his teaching duties, Leo is a volunteer parent educator for the New Hampshire State Prison system, writes a biweekly column for the Laconia Daily Sun, and is a consulting school psychologist for the Inter-Lakes School District in Meredith, NH. Leo has published several articles and presented at numerous conferences nationally and internationally on such topics as peace and war, college pedagogy , education and parenting. In 2003 he was named Service Learning Professor of the Year at Plymouth State University where he currently chairs the Culture for Peace Steering Committee. Leo is married and has two adult children – a daughter who is an English professor and a son who is a pharmacist. His wife of 44 years co-owns a private school in Meredith, New Hampshire.
