...MoreAs University Professor Emeritus of the Gwen Frostic School of Art, Western Michigan University and President of BIGthink (art/technology/education collaborative), his career has focused on becoming a significant artist, an inspiring teacher and a scholarly collaborative researcher/lecturer. With an undergraduate art degree from Western Michigan University, a graduate art degree from the University of Iowa and post graduate work at the University of Georgia, Rizzolo’s public school teaching career began in the Petoskey Public School, MI, where he taught middle and high school art, supervised elementary art and taught art history and studio art at North Central Michigan College. He was elected President of the Michigan Art Education Association and served for two terms and later was elected to the Board of Directors for the National Art Education Association as the first elected Chairperson of the States Assembly. As Professor of Studio Art and Art Education, he served as the Art Department’s Art Education Area Chairperson and later the Painting Area Chairperson. Sabbatical Leave to M.I.T.’s Center for Advanced Visual Studies for Art and Technology, university team teaching with four other professors in the Integrated Creative Arts Minor and collaborative research on brain function and creativity with Dr. Rich Cooper, Professor of Occupational Therapy, Rizzolo has been an advocate, writer, and lecturer for Integrative Teaching and Learning, Mobile and Contextual Learning and World Peace Art Initiatives through national and international multi-media Art/Tech environmental installations and performances.
