Louise Paatsch is Associate Professor in the area of language and literacy at Deakin University in the Faculty of Arts and Education. She is a teacher and teacher of the deaf with over 25 years of experience. From 1998 to 2009 she was a lecturer at the University of Melbourne training teachers of the deaf in the areas of spoken language, speech production, and speech perception. During this period she also worked as a research assistant in the department of Otolaryngology at the University of Melbourne on a 5-year longitudinal study which investigated the spoken language skills of school-aged children with hearing loss. In 2007, Louise completed her PhD following her Master of Education at the University of Melbourne. In 2010 Louise moved to Deakin university. Her research uses mixed methods approaches that focus on oral language, play, and literacy development, as well as investigates teacher talk, inclusive education, professional learning, and teachers as researchers.
