Leila Valoura – “Leila Kaas” is a communication consultant and educator specialized in cross-cultural or intercultural relationships in organizations. She has over 10 years of experience in communication and education for organizations in Brazil, United States, Canada and Sweden. Clients include TERC Cambridge, Florida International University, Google, Project Management Institute, PepsiCo, Petrobras Brazil, Save the Children, Malmo City Hall and Helsingborg City Hall in Sweden, YTV Channel in Canada, Comunicarte Communication Agency for Social Responsibility in Brazil, City Hall of Rio de Janeiro, Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, Skyword, Don Burton Media, Echo Park Film Center, TV Globo Brazil, Candido Mendes University, Abrapia, FASE non profit organization for education, and Meu Kantinho Cultural Center.
A Brazilian, Portuguese, and now American citizen who resides in the U.S., Leila Valoura is a doctoral candidate in Education – Organization Leadership Studies concentration at Northeastern University in Boston, where she is doing research on organizational learning and culture. She also teaches in the Department of Communication at Bristol Community College and has published in peer-reviewed journals such as Culture Unbound as well as books such as the Creative Districts Around the World: Celebrating the 500th Anniversary of Bairro Alto. She also co-founded the new media, film and arts initiative, BridgeThink.org, which sponsored events that connected creative communities and encouraged cross-pollination between fields.
Born and raised in Rio de Janeiro city, Leila holds a bachelor’s in Communication Studies from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro and a Master’s degree in Applied Cultural Analysis from Lund University in Sweden. She also holds an MBA degree in Project Management from Getulio Vargas Foundation in Brazil. Leila is fascinated by the diversity of the world's cultures.
She believes that traveling and interacting with differences are the best way to learn about one’s inner geography and true self. She has traveled extensively and lived in Latin America, North America, and Europe. She is fluent in Portuguese, English, as well as in Spanish and has basic auditory and reading comprehension in French and Italian.
Her passions and hobbies include hiking, bicycle touring, meditating, dancing, watching and making documentaries, writing, traveling, and meeting people from diverse backgrounds. More recently, she started building stone sculptures and has been enjoying it very much.
