Kristin Otto recently graduated from DePauw University as an anthropology major and Honor Scholar. She has a background in archaeological research and curatorial projects, which inspired her research focus on the presentation of knowledge in museums and the treatment of material culture. Her senior honors thesis, entitled "Stories of Africa: The Politics of Displaying African Objects in Museum Exhibitions," involved case studies of several Midwestern museum's constructed narratives of Africa. A selection based on the Field Museum of Natural History's "Africa" was presented at Bowling Green State University's "Emerging Perspectives in Africana Studies" symposium. Kristin expanded her research on African objects to include the construction of scientific museum narratives, such as reproduction, in her anthropology senior thesis, entitled “Humanizing and Heroizing the Fetus: The Production of Reproduction at the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry.” Kristin looks forward to continuing an analysis of the production and presentation of knowledge in museums in her future education and career.
