Khairiah lectures in intercultural communication and public relations at the School of Communication Studies, AUT University. She is National Director (New Zealand) for Asian Congress for Media and Communication and is pursuing her doctoral research in intercultural aspects of trust in online communication between organisations and their publics. She is Singaporean, has lived in England and Malaysia and currently resides in Auckland, New Zealand.
Khairiah has served in the private, public and not-for-profit sectors in a range of industries including finance, retail, media and education, with special interest in public relations, communication and organisational relationship management. She has also served as an educational ambassador for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs initiative in Singapore training government officials of Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam. In addition, she has served in the Singapore International Foundation as a volunteer tutor.
Her research interests include organisational communication, intercultural communication, media studies, applied pedagogy and global sociological developments impacting societies, organisations and nations.
She is a member of the International Communication Association, the Asian Congress for Media and Communication, The National University of Singapore Society and the Public Relations Institute of New Zealand (PRINZ).
