I was born in the rural community of Warracknabeal which means big trees by the water in the local Australian Indigenous language.
I am a PhD student in the area of disability studies. Since 2005 I have been a lecturer in rehabilitation nursing, paediatric nursing, epidemiology and legal studies and ethics at the Whyalla Campus of the University of South Australia. Previously I worked in the United Kingdom, Papua/New Guinea and remote areas of Australia. I have qualifications in nursing,midwifery, paediatric nursing, public health and a bachelor of arts in philosophy. In 2007 I won a quality teaching award at the University of South Australia.
Community engagement is important to me and I am a Rotarian, Girl Guide Leader and Justice of the Peace (voluntary legal clerk). I enjoy craft work, gardening, cookery and swimming.
