My research interest has been the missionary factor in the transition of Yoruba people of Southwest Nigeria from primal milieu to modern outlook, with particular interest in the religious and cultural negotiations inherent in the process. Having done a micro-exploration of the same in a biographical study of a minister-convert who was self-conscious of this process [See: Samuel Johnson of Yorubaland, 1846-1901. Bern, Switzerland: Peter Lang, 2013.], I wish to look at a broader picture through specific missionary encounters with religious and traditional authorities in the country during the century of change, 1941-1910. I am a Yoruba from Nigeria. I studied Architecture at the University of Lagos (1980-1986) and theology at three institutions: Nigerian Baptist Theological Seminary, Ogbomoso, Nigeria (1988-1991), Akrofi-Christaller Institute, Ghana, and University of KwaZulu-Natal, Pietermaritzburg, South Africa (1999-2010).
