I received a doctorate of Environmental Studies from the University of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. My work has been interdisciplinary with major interests in tourism, environmental management, urban planning, and biogeography. Twenty-six years spent in the workforce including 6 working with underprivileged children from depressed urban area, 20 years as a naturalist and visitor service officer in Canada’s National Parks, and 20 years as a professor of tourism and heritage management. I teach in both Canada and China which has given me a wide interdisciplinary view of the world.
I have been involved in tourism planning for the cities of Hangzhou and Harbin China, urban planning issues in St. Stephen, NB. Other projects have included development of an urban heritage site, and situation analysis studies for Qamdo, Tibet and Qinling County China.
Present research relates to image analysis and the rural urban dichotomy.
