Kenneth L. Campbell, Professor of Biology, University of Massachusetts Boston (UMB), has been at UMB for 32 years. He teaches junior/senior/graduate Endocrinology, graduate Biomedical Tracers and Mammalian Toxicology, an Honors colloquium on Humanness and Humanity, and has mentored 87 undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate trainees. Trained in chemistry (BA; Augsburg College, Minneapolis), biochemistry (MS, PhD; University of Michigan, Ann Arbor), and reproductive endocrinology (postdoctoral; University of Michigan), he has 37 years of research experience in applied immunology, diagnostic analyses, development of biomarkers, and transdisciplinary research. During 20 years of collaboration with anthropologists he helped found the cross-disciplinary area of human reproductive ecology. In searching for biomarkers he currently uses proteomics to identify the biological activities of peptides generated by breakdown of protein hormones in target cells. As Associate Dean of the College of Science and Mathematics UMB (2005-2008) Dr. Campbell fostered inter-departmental work, and improved communications between Faculty and Administration.
