Born in Shanghai, China, I immigrated to the United States at the age of eight. After growing up in southern United States, I joined the U.S. Navy and served for six years as a translator/interpreter for various governmental agencies. After my tour of duty, I continued my undergraduate education at Bucknell University, Lewisburg, PA, USA. I majored in Comparative Humanities, East Asian Studies (Chinese), and minored in Biology. I completed my MA in English in January 2009. My thesis is titled _Chinese Characters as Traveling Metaphors in Canto LXXVII of Ezra Pound’s Pisan Cantos, and James Legge’s Book of Poetry 华英诗经 [Huá Yīng Shī Jīng]. I recently completed a project on Robert Morrison. My current research is on the Taiping and Qing Civil War in mid-nineteenth Century China. Academic interests include: Chinese History, War Studies, English 18th Century Studies, East-West Comparative Hermeneutics, Translation Studies, Literary Theory, Gender Studies, Science Fiction, Chinese Language and Literature.
