I teach on a number of modules for the degree in Early Childhood Education. I lead the Early Years Research Cluster, which involves supporting colleagues in their research as well as conducting my own research. My doctoral research explored what disadvantaged first-time mothers know and understand about infant communication. Currently I am exploring early years practitioners' perceptions of the use of pacifiers and their regulation within the EY setting. In addition, I supervise 9 health students who are completing their Master's dissertation in education. I have written and presented about my doctoral research and also about ethical implications of multi-disciplinary research. The Early Childhood team have completed a book, due to be published in March 2007, about the challenges of working in a multi-disciplinary team.
My own background is in school nursing, however I completed a Master's and PhD in education.
