I study and teach Philosophy at San Francisco State University. As a student of the history of philosophy, I am not only interested in offering the most coherent, and charitable interpretation of the philosophers of the past, but I am primarily interested in tracing the history of ideas that has indubitably influenced current frames of thought (which demands the engagement` of critical theory). Having spent the past five years engaging Ancient, Medieval and Modern canonical figures (I have also worked on figures outside of the cannon, especially early modern women), I have come to approach the contemporary philosophical field with an understanding of the historical influence of various thinkers from different times and intellectual traditions. It is in my interest to critically examine some of the frames that have been passed down, or adopted by the contemporary (and past) public, taking care to examine the root of these frames; whether honestly endorsed by the intellectual figures from which they have been passed down/ adopted, or exoterically misinterpreted.
