Joris Vermassen (°1964) has a master degree in graphic design. He teaches at the School of Arts, Hogeschool Gent and is a Ph.D. candidate at the Ghent University, where he works on a research project in the Arts. In this project, he is investigating the relationship between literature and pictures. He is also a comic artist, comedian and scriptwriter (pseudonym Fritz Van den Heuvel) who had his own radio show on the public radio (Radio 1, 2004-2006). He published in major magazines (HUMO, De Groene Amsterdammer…) and is the author of the prize winning children comic ‘De Bamburgers’ (with Simon Spruyt). He was nominated for the Flemish Culture Awards 2006.
