I am author or editor of three books: Dismantling the Public Sphere: Situating and Sustaining Librarianship in the Age of the New Public Philosophy (2003, American Library Association Futas award and NJLA Research award); Critical Approaches to Information Technology in Librarianship: Foundations and Applications (1993, editor); and the forthcoming Library as Place: History, Community and Culture (2006, coedited with Gloria Leckie). I am also coeditor of the journal Progressive Librarian and on the coordinating council of the Progressive Librarians Guild. My work has been primarily concerned with the increasing monetization and technocratic thrust in public institutions (libraries), and a more critical examination of these trends.
