Jasmin Zine is an Associate Professor in Sociology and the Muslim Studies Option at Wilfrid Laurier University. She teaches courses in the areas of critical race and ethnic studies, race and postcolonial studies, education and social justice, Muslim cultural politics in Canada and race, gender and imperialism. She received a research grant from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) to pursue a Canada wide study of Muslim youth and the politics of empire, citizenship and belonging post 9/11. She was also part of an expert working group for the development educational guidelines for combating discrimination against Muslims that is part of an inter-governmental initiative spearheaded by the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the Council of Europe. Her edited book entitled "Islam in the Hinterlands: Muslim Cultural Politics in Canada" will be published in April 2012 and she has published other books, and journal articles in the areas of Islamic schooling, anti-racism and inclusive education, Islamophobia, Islamic feminism, gender and the war on terror and representations of Muslim women.
