Dr. Iris Mullins' education includes BSN, MSN, and PHD in Nursing. She has worked in clinical settings including acute care hospitals and a retirement center which included residential, assisted living, and skilled nursing. Her hospital nursing positions have included staff nurse, unit charge or re-source nurse, and shift patient care coordinator. In the retirement center she was an assistant director of nursing and also provided director of nursing responsibilities in the director's absence. Her academic teaching responsibilities have included courses in BSN, MSN, NP, DNP, and PHD curriculum with an emphasis on nursing research methodologies at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. She has taught adult health and perinatal clinical to undergraduate students and currently teaches adult health acute care hospital clinicals. Her research interests are focused on vulnerable and underserved populations, health promotion, HIV/AIDS, developing expertise in nursing, assisting students to develop critical thinking abilities,health risks and health promotion in truck drivers, and assisting nursing students to develop skills in documentation including use of the electronic health record.
