Dr. Irena Bojanova is an Associate Professor and Program Director Telecommunications Management in the Information and Technology Systems Department in the Graduate School of Management and Technology at the University of Maryland University College. She received a Ph.D. degree in Computer Science/ Mathematics from the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and M.S. and B.S. degrees in Mathematics from the Sofia University. Her doctoral dissertation topic is “Static analysis, simulation, and verification of Estelle specifications of communication protocols.” Dr. Bojanova has taught variety of computer information systems, computer science, and mathematics courses and has managed academic programs at UMUC–SUS and GSMT, Johns Hopkins University–CTY, Sofia University, and PIsoft Ltd. Her research interests are in educational innovations, learning outcomes assessment, and distributed, object-oriented, and Web database systems. She co-founded a software firm, currently employing 500 developers, managed the life cycle of large scale software development projects, led the startup and managed the graduate level academic programs of a successful educational company in Sofia, Bulgaria.
