Heather Ryan is Associate Professor and Head of Educational Psychology in the Faculty of Education at the University of Regina in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada. She received her PhD in Educational Psychology from the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta in 1995 specializing in educational reform, human development and language and cognition. From 1995 to 2000 at Massey University in New Zealand she taught human development and research methods and research focus was on early literacy development and special education resourcing in New Zealand. She has presented her research at national and international conferences, published articles and edited, with a colleague, a textbook on beginning reading instruction and the prevention of reading problems.
Dr. Ryan's principal interest is in working with students and teachers to enhance inclusive learning environments. Currently she is exploring the efficacy of distance and assistive technologies to improve access and success for students with disabilities and indigenous students in post secondary studies, with the belief that if learning outcomes are improved for these students all students and their communities benefit.
