Grace came to UVic in 1997 as the International Counsellor for Counselling Services. She won acclaim from the Canadian Bureau of International Education (CBIE) for her creation of the Buddy Program and later the International Graduate Students' Support Group. Grace has been involved in a wide variety of committees, including the Peer Mentoring Task Force, the Committee on Sexual and Gender Diversity, and the International Working Group. Recently, she was seconded to the Office of International Affairs, and acted as Director of Equity and Director of Human Rights. Currently, she is co-chair of the Mental Health Task Group, chair of the Cultural Capacity Task Group, and chair of the Equity for Everyone Task Force. A native Victorian, Grace was the first of her family to be born in Canada. Her father was a pioneer who came to Canada in 1908 but, due to the expense of the head tax and the later restriction of the Canadian Immigration Act, he was unable to bring his wife to Canada until 1950. Proudly Canadian, Grace is committed to maintaining her cultural heritage and is passionate in her work to help every person feel valued for who they are.
