Georgina Walker is a PhD candidate in Art History at the University of Melbourne in Australia. She holds a Master of Art Curatorship and a Post Graduate Diploma in Art Curatorial Studies from the University of Melbourne and a Bachelor of Arts from the RMIT University, Melbourne.
She has been awarded an Australian Post Graduate Award, the Norman Macgeorge, Alma Hansen and Ursula Hoff Art History Scholarships in recognition of her doctoral studies.
Georgina’s PhD thesis--‘The private museum: Contemporary art collecting and philanthropy’ considers the personalized approach to arts philanthropy as many art collectors in the last decade have sought to make their private museums publicly accessible from the onset.
Recent research projects include ‘Contemporary art collecting and philanthropy: a comparative study of current Australian models of philanthropy’ and ‘Contemporary art collecting and philanthropy: American private art collector and philanthropist Eli Broad and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA).’
Georgina’s research interests include theories of art history, museum theory and practice, cultural philanthropy, contemporary art and museum studies and the history of collecting.
