Fran Richardson has been involved in cultural safety education for a number of years. Her Master's thesis explored the experiences of educators who taught cultural safety in nursing education programmes. Her PhD investigated the application of cultural safety knowledge in everyday nursing practice.
A key finding identified that culturally safe practice was constrained and enabled by the values embedded within different practice settings, this in turn influenced the nature of health care outcomes for people using health services.
