I am a classical archaeologist, with a degree from Brown University, who teaches ancient art history at the University of Georgia. In my research, I have constantly pushed myself to master different methodologies. I started out as a specialist in mythology on architectural sculptures from Greek temples. I then expanded this work into mythology in ancient and later art, up to the present. Then I became interested in archival research, and have worked with documents in this country and in Rome. I then realized that the most important and definitive contributions to archaeology were being made by archaeologists working in collaboration with scientists. My collaborative research in archaeological science has involved analyses of samples of white marble from Roman antiquities, to determine the location of the quarries that were the sources of the marbles. In a new area, I have recently become interested in infrared photography, to recover faint pencil markings on some early-19th-century drawings of figures in ancient costumes, some of which were published in my article entitled “Thomas Hope (1769-1831): An Interdisciplinary Champion of Greek Design,” in the International Journal of the Humnaities, vol. 3.4 (2005/2006), pp. 31-59.
