Fiona trained Primary school teacher and taught in schools around the Illawarra. She is in her final year as a PhD candidate at the University of Wollongong, and currently lecturers and tutors in the Special Education program. Fiona's current research is an extension on her Honours degree and she is conducting research into meeting the needs of teachers in rural areas. Her study entitled ‘Bringing It To The Teachers: Meeting the needs of teachers in isolated schools of students with Oppositional Defiant Disorder’ is designed based research. Fiona is a member of the executive committee of the NSW Institute of Educational Research, as well as the Illawarra branch of the Australian Association of Special Education.
