  My particular interest is in the furthering of independent learning for students who have recently left secondary education. I teach writing-intensive courses in which writing tasks are completed on a weekly basis and where a certain amount of independent research is required. I am keen to move away from the traditional style of university teaching which involves students listening to lectures and taking notes, and which is still a major element of taught courses at my institution.
