I am a current master student studying Global Media Communication. I am very interested in media and migration, such as how media frame global migration issues and how migrants distablise and negotiate with their representation by media. However, as a master student, I have very little capability to conduct a research on the global issues by myself, and therefore, I decided to conduct a research on Han migrant community in Xinjiang in the Maoist era. I found it incredibly interesting due to the fact that this national project of people relocation cannot fit in the contemporary theoretical framework of media and migration. On the other hand, as a third generational Han migrant in Xinjiang, it was extremely meaningful for myself to conduct a research on people around me, investigating their life histories and official discourse on them.
