Evvan V. Morton, a doctoral student in sustainable engineering, wants to implement renewable energy technologies and sustainability practices in developing countries to increase their economic development. Her current project uses Life Cycle Assessment to find the sustainability implications of guayule-based natural rubber tire production. Morton says, “Using Life Cycle Assessment will make it easier to help decision makers adopt sustainability practices and technologies that are best for their country.” Morton intends to use computational modeling to simulate the technical, economic, human and environmental factors of evolving energy systems in developing countries. Morton earned her bachelor’s in materials engineering from the University of Cincinnati. She is now pursuing a PhD at Arizona State University in Civil, Environmental and Sustainable Engineering from the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering and a certificate in Responsible Innovation in Science, Engineering and Society from the Consortium for Science, Policy and Outcomes.
