  Besides teaching a wide-range of history courses at the University of North Florida, I have written five books and a variety of articles and reviews. My last two books, _Publishing and Medicine in Early Modern England_ (2002), and _Textual Healing_ (edited and with a chapter, 2005), focused on the relationship between health issues and the printed word. My current research explores the history of diabetes in Britain, once an obscure malady but now of epidemic proportions. The principal emphasis of the new work again connects treatment and texts, especially during the 19th century when a sort of race to find a "cure" for for diabetes caused a flurry of competing publications. For the conference, I propose a paper identifying key figures in the diabetes frenzy, their special remedies for the disease, and the work they authored in hopes of spreading the word about their regimens and giving those treatments credibility.
